San Juan, Puerto Rico
For the second year in a row, PLAZA celebrates Flower Power
– A collection of classic Volkswagen and Porsche cars, in the company of orchids and bonsais, will serve as decoration of PLAZA’s 1st
level corridors during the second annual Flower Power Fair
, which begins on Monday, March 28 through Sunday, April 3. This year, the invent is dedicated to Dr. Norman González Chacón, who for more tan 50 years has worked on these cars and who owns the Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico, established in Yauco.
The best Volkswagen and Porsche cars on the Island have been selected to be part of this attractive and colorful exhibition. A Volkswagen Van that belongs to González Chacón’s museum will be the theme car for this year, in addition to a Volkswagen Cabriolet (convertible) from the sixties. Both vehicles have been decorated with huge flowers and bright colors to represent the Flower Power theme, which in turn, represents the Peace & Love movement of the sixties and seventies.
The Porsche models will have a full showcase that will include some of the earlier cars from the 50’s to the more modern GT2’s and GT3’s. The more modern sample of the sporty German car will be located in the fountain area in front of Macy’s.
“We are gathering the best sample of these cars, during a whole week, for the enjoyment of the whole family and those who are auto enthusiasts. There will be a full calendar of activities that includes: seminars on how those famous cars were designed and created, and on how to start your own collection,” as expressed by Sarah Colomer, Fairs and Exhibits Director - Plaza Las Américas.
Barry Meguiar, the star of all car related TV, will arrive in Puerto Rico to record two TV shows for his popular series “Car Crazy,” and will share and spend some time with all car enthusiasts that gather at PLAZA on Saturday and Sunday, the 2nd

On Monday, March 28th
, during the opening ceremonies, we will be recognizing González Chacón for his trajectory and contributions to preserving and restoring vintage Volkswagens in Puerto Rico through the creation of the museum.
