The Jodhpur tray is built from a continuous field of mother of pearl shell inlay — thousands of individually placed tiles covering the full surface and interior walls of a circular, deep-sided form. The shell pieces are cut small and set close, producing a surface that shifts with ambient light rather than announcing a single colour. The ground beneath reads differently depending on the variant. On a console or low table, the tray holds its surface without needing anything placed in it. Light moves across the shell inlay through the day — the surface reads closer to material than pattern.
