Ottomans that sit flat on the floor always look slightly temporary, as though they were put down for a moment and never moved. Raising the body on legs changes that entirely. The gap underneath lets light and floor show through, which makes a 43 in piece of furniture read as lighter than it is, and it keeps the upholstery off a floor that gets mopped. Underneath the lid there is 30 Gal of enclosed storage, which is enough for a full set of spare bedding or the accumulated blankets of a winter. The top is padded with foam under Pvc leather, a surface that matters more on a bench than on a chair because a bench takes bags, feet, and the occasional cup set down without thinking. Pvc leather wipes rather than absorbs, and it does not hold the shape of whatever was sitting on it last. The bench measures 15 in deep and stands 15.7 in tall, sized to sit on at the foot of a bed or along a hallway wall. A static load capacity of 660 lb covers adult seating with a wide margin, and the Mdf body keeps the assembled weight to 21.7 lb so it can be moved without a second person. The interior is lined with non-woven fabric, so what goes inside is not sitting against bare board.
