Poly wood rather than timber is the choice that decides how this bed ages. It is built from 100 percent HIPS, a material that does not fade, crack or rot the way a wooden bed does after repeated wet and dry cycles, and the maker rates it for a 5 to 10 year lifespan on that basis. It still looks like wood, with rich textured grain molded into the surface and elegant X-shaped bars across the frame. The planter box measures 44 by 15 by 7 in and carries 110 lbs, room enough for flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruits together across a 47 in run. Bottom drainage holes clear the water and ventilate the base so the soil is not sitting in a sealed tray. Holding all of it up are bottom crossbars that keep the structure strong and stable, plus an additional supporting leg that stops a long frame warping or bending in the middle, which is where an unsupported span gives way first. The elevated height is set ergonomically so working the bed does not mean the painful kneeling or bending a ground-level border forces. Underneath, a ventilated slatted shelf takes up to 66 lbs of gardening accessories and lets rain drain through rather than pooling on it.
