Twenty-two inches tall is low enough for an adult to step over without unlatching anything, which is the reason to choose a freestanding gate over a pressure-mounted one at a doorway used all day. Three pine panels hinge open from 28 in wide out to 80 in, and the feet swing out to hold the frame upright with nothing fixed into a wall or a skirting board. Folded down it stores flat behind a door. It blocks hallways, stairways and entryways and moves between rooms in seconds. Solid pine at 14 lbs, in brown; a gray version is also offered.
