A worktop runs the full 73.5 in length beneath the mattress at 29 in high, which is what turns a loft bed into a study for a dorm or a small apartment rather than just raised sleeping. It carries 88 lbs, with a separate shelf rated 44 lbs for books and a lamp. Solid pine finished with waterproof paint gives a burr-free surface, and the slats hold 330 lbs with no foundation needed. The frame stands 72 in on a 77 x 41 in footprint, with 12 in guardrails above. At 259 lbs in two cartons, plan on two people for assembly. Brown or white.
