Twelve interlocking tiles combine into one large activity area covering about 52 sq ft, each tile 25 in square at a 0.5-in thickness. The top of every tile carries a raised surface pattern rather than a flat face, and that texture is what protects against slipping and keeps footing sure when a session gets quick. Underneath the pattern the material is environment-friendly EVA, chosen to be good for health rather than the sharp-smelling budget foam that outgasses for weeks, and it is durable enough to be used for years without deformation or fracture, holding its thickness instead of compressing into permanent dents where equipment stands. Noise is the other thing the foam handles well: it performs strongly at reducing noise, so training or play stays a peaceful matter for anyone in the next room. Twenty-four side strips are included to round off the border, giving the layout a finished straight edge that fits neatly against a wall rather than leaving exposed puzzle teeth around the perimeter. The interlocking design is deliberately easy to detach, so the floor can be pulled apart and the tiles piled up for storage in a minute rather than being a semi-permanent installation. Cleaning takes nothing more than a wet cloth, since the surface is waterproof and does not absorb what is spilled on it. The full gray set weighs 8 lbs in total, and assembly is required.
