Open, they do something the fixed classic cannot: the backrest locks at five separate angles, from fully upright for eating or talking through to a maximum of 135 degrees for lying back with your eyes closed, so one chair covers the whole afternoon. The comfort is structural rather than cushioned. The backrest is tall enough to reach the head, the armrests are widened to take a forearm properly, the seat is contoured across its 20-in by 18-in area, and the back is slatted so air moves through the chair rather than trapping heat against a shirt. A 3.5-in swivel cup holder turns on the arm, keeping a drink level and in reach at any recline angle. Both chairs are moulded from HIPS with a wood grain texture that is sun-protective and anti-fading, and the smooth surface only needs a wipe to come back to new.
